Lake Elmo Inn

Founded in 1881, the Lake Elmo Inn was originally set up as a stage coach stop. Since then it has had many faces and changes to its original rustic state. Over 120 years the Inn has served as host to a railroad station, a barbershop and a bar or two.

In 1983, Chef John Schiltz began living his boyhood dream of owning the Lake Elmo Inn. John began his career in the restaurant business as a dishwasher right here at the Inn, under other management, at the age of 16. Since those humble beginnings, he has spent time at some of the finest restaurants in the country, including the Hyatt in Des Moines, Kansas City, and Minneapolis, honing his skills as an award-winning Chef. In 2006, John was awarded the top honor as Restaurateur of the Year from the Minnesota Restaurant Association.

John continually strives to provide the finest cuisine with excellent service to make your dining experience the best it can possibly be. As a member of the Twin Cities Originals, the Inn represents the finest of the Independent Restaurateurs.

It’s no surprise that the Lake Elmo Inn has received many awards from the Mpls./St. Paul Magazine.

Our Collections and Décor

If you enjoy a variety of tempting treats for the eyes, one thing you will notice is that we have several special collections for you to see. We feature unique paintings from local artists, carved wood ducks, a salt and pepper collection second to none with over 4,000 sets, beautiful antique buffets, outstanding crystal and silver; you will be amazed at the collections.

Holidays are very special at the Inn. Our Haunted Halloween is complete with spooky staff in costumes and trick or treat candy bars. Our “Eggceptional” Easter spotlights the 80 lb Decorated Chocolate Egg and two 40 lb. Chocolate Rabbits. But, if you are looking for a seasonal ‘must see’, it is Christmastime at the Inn. From the Friday after Thanksgiving until the first week of January, the Inn is transformed into a Christmas Fantasy Land. Featured are the collections of Nutcrackers and Snow Globes, a Christmas Tree to gather ornaments from customers (bring in an ornament and receive a complimentary beverage or rail drink), and thousands of ornaments collected from previous years fill the ceiling in the bar. Plus…much, much more!
